Out of curiosity, I failed the drive again and then uninstalled SP2 beta and I was back to where I started - no way to repair a RAID-5 volume. Even diskpart successfully repiars the failed volume. Also, now "Repair Volume" is available and it proceeds to repair the failed volume.

Then I get to looking and see there is an SP2 beta, which I install and reboot the VM. Viola, now the volume shows as "Failed Redundancy" and the data is accessible to Windows. So basically, at this point, this RAID-5 volume is gone with only 1/3 drives failed. Boot the VM back up and it still shows "Failed Volume." The "Repair Volume." option is greyed-out when right-clicking the volume and diskpart will not repair the volume as the failed disk is not available (no kidding, it's failed). The drive is "gone" to Windows and the data is not accessible.ģ) Shut-down the VM and attach a replacement drive. Boot back up and the volume shows "Failed Volume" not failed redundancy as in 2003. Format as E: and wait for it to initialize/resynchronize to Healthy status.Ģ) Shut-down the VM and remove one of the 3 virtual drives to simulate a failure.
